The James Fisher Prize for First Books on the Himalayan Region

The James Fisher Prize for First Books on the Himalayan Region honors the scholarly contributions of Dr. James Fisher to scholarship on the region. The prize will recognize an outstanding first book on the Himalayan region.

The Association of Nepal and Himalayan Studies is soliciting books for the 2021 James Fisher Prize for First Books on the Himalayan Region. Books must have been published in the past three years prior to the deadline of Nov 15, 2021. Single or co-authored academic books written in English are accepted. Edited volumes, fiction, or non-English language books are not eligible. Only the first book by an author is eligible for submission.

The award recipient will receive a $250 prize from ANHS. A committee will determine the awardee and may choose to designate no winner in any given year if no appropriate submissions are received. Applicants in all disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Submissions must be received by Nov 15, 2021.

Interested applicants or their publishers should send 3 copies of each submitted book to:
