2013 Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya
Social Science Baha announces the Second Annual Kathmandu Conference on Nepal and the Himalaya being organised in partnership with the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies and the Britain-Nepal Academic Council. The conference will be held in Kathmandu from 24 to 26 July, 2013.
The 2013 conference, spanning over two and half days, will consist of eight themed panels on various social science disciplines. For the conference, proposals were initially invited either as stand-alone papers or as panels. These papers/panels were then selected by an international committee representing the three organisations. Attendance to this part of the conference is by registration only. Registration is now closed.
The conference also includes two keynote addresses delivered during the evenings (5 – 6:30 pm) of 24 and 25 July as well as a panel discussion during the afternoon (2:30 – 4:30 pm) of 26 July, which are all public sessions. The first keynote entitled ‘Five Nepali Novels’ will be delivered by Prof Michael Hutt on 24 July Wednesday) and the second keynote ‘Democracy in Trouble? Political Elite’s Attitude and Behaviour and Regime Stability in Nepal’ will be delivered by Prof Mahendra Lawoti on the evening of 25 July (Thursday). The panel discussion on ‘Strategic Plan for the Proposed Social Science Research Council in Nepal’ will led by Prof Pitamber Sharma from 2:30 – 4:30 pm on 26 July (Friday). These are public sessions in which admission is free and open to all on a first-come-first-served basis.
All panels and keynote sessions will be held at Hotel Shanker, Lazimpat.
